In the Action Items section, you have the ability to view key metrics and the highest value cloud action items, and manage the execution of those items. The Activity Log helps you track status changes to action items, as well as the business value of resolving those items.
Action Item Overview
On the Action Item Overview, you will find the % Optimal and Net Value metrics, along with their breakdowns. You will also see a histogram of the Net Value of your action items.
Learn more about Key Metrics (i.e., % Optimal and Net Value) used by the Compute Software Platform under the section “Key Metrics” of the documentation.
You will also find the total number of action items, how many are Open, how many are In Progress, the action types to complete, and the number of action items older than two weeks.
Track Action Items
In the Action Items section, you will find your action items prioritized by Net Value. Easily identify the highest value action items to work on by starting from the top of the list. Each action item has a Status and an Action Type.
The Status of an item allows you to track which items are “Open,” “In Progress,” and “Resolved.” The Action Type indicates what needs to be done (e.g., Terminate, Rightsize) that is optimal for your workload.
Update the Status of an Action Item
Once you select an action item, an overlay will appear and you will see a list of Tasks. You may choose Task #1 or an Alternative Task to take. Once you have chosen a Task, you may change the status of that Task to reflect your workflow.
(If you do not wish to execute any Task, you may leave the status of all Tasks “Open.” Leaving all Tasks “Open” will allow the action item to remain in your Action Items list and for the associated cloud resource to continually be evaluated for Tasks).
The Status bar at the top of the action item overlay allows you to track your action item's progress at a glance.
Steps to Get Started:
- Select an action item from the Action Items section. You will see an overlay appear.
- Choose a Task for your resource. If you choose to do nothing, you may leave all Tasks “Open” and you will receive new Tasks for the resource when they are available.
- Update the status of the Task to “In Progress” or “Resolved.”
- Click Save.
Helpful tips: If a Task is “In Progress” and you would like to revisit another Task, you must first change the Task marked as ”In Progress” back to ”Open.”
Once a Task's status has been changed to “Resolved,” you will only be able to reference details of the action item in the Activity Log section.
Note: If you choose to terminate or rightsize a resource, you should resolve the action item before executing the change with your cloud provider. Once a resource is terminated, we are no longer able to detect the resource. Resolving the action item in advance will ensure proper tracking of your activity.
Simulate Changes to the Performance Criticality Property
You can simulate a Performance Criticality property change from the Simulations tab of the action item overlay.
Select a Performance Criticality option and you will see your tasks update for the action item. Performance Criticality is a property that you set to indicate how significant of a tradeoff you are willing to make between workload performance and provider cost savings.
If Performance Criticality is set to Highly Critical, you will find any action items to be tuned toward performance versus cost savings. If Performance Criticality is Less Critical, you will find any action items to be tuned toward cost savings versus performance.
